Christian the Lion – DVD and Book

Hi Everyone,

I must tell you, I was overwhelmed with the 700 visitors since we posted the video about “Christian”, this remarkably gentle and intelligent lion (while not surprised, it is very touching!).  Too, I was surprised how many of you were like me, that had never seen or heard of Christian before.  Where have we been? :-)

To be of help, you may want to try and hunt these down.  (so far, I have been unsuccessful).  They are the DVD entitled, Christian the Lion, and the book entitled “A Lion Called Christian”.  You can find out more about these in great demand items by following this link.

Happy hunting for these “Born Free” like treasures that you and your family will surely enjoy for decades, granted you can get your hands on one.  Let me know how you do in your search.

All the best…

  4. Thank you, your write up on the story of ‘Christian’ is far more touching than what’s out in the media.
Your coverage of this beautiful love story between man and beast (so to speak) makes it personal!
I shared it with all my SU friends and they love it too.

  5. You’re the greatest Sandy! Thanks for the interest in this story and for passing it on. We really appreciate your kind comments. All the best to you (and come back! :-) )

  6. I have been completely mesmerized and obsessed by the amazing videos of Christian the lion showing excerpts of the movie and the book. What is so terribly sad to me is that “his people” said goodbye a “final” goodbye to their “pet” who loved them so completely he would have remembered them forever. I wish they somehow kept in contact with him, even if it was via ESP over the years. I also wish we knew what happened to Christian and to John Rendall and Anthony Bourke. If anyone has any news it would be interesting to know.

I managed to buy the English and American versions of the DVD, but can’t seem to get the book. I saw it on e-bay today, but it is going for alot of money.

  7. Simply the best animal story I’ve read & the video’s were fantastic. I just watched all the video’s myself. According to George Adamson in a statement I read, Christian & his pride crossed the Tana River & was never seen again. The statement also says that Christian was 97 years (14 human years) old at that time. Sounds like Christian lived the fullest life a lion could considering their average life span is 12-15 human years.

  8. Thanks Tim, I can’t wait to get it. I appreciate the additional stats on Christian too, I know a lot of our readers are trying to get their hands on these. Take care!

  9. I had never even heard of Christian before. Thanks for this, it made my day, and I bawled like a baby over this

  10. ^^I second Jane’s post…

I’m still wiping off happy tears…it was hard getting through some of it as it vividly reminded me of the relationship I’ve had with pets long gone…

My orange tabby, Cheeto, was taken from me not too long ago by someone who couldn’t be bothered to slow down while traveling through a residential street…he was struck and killed right in front of our home.

If this is what some refer to as “Rainbow Bridge”..I can’t wait to get there!!

    Again, thanks for sharing!

  11. Erika. I can relate to your pain of losing Cheeto and how this video made you think of him and others lost. The most special cat I’ve ever owned (Max) is fighting cancer and this video made me cry bc. it reminds me of how Max is with me…….he loves me so much! I don’t know how I will ever cope when he’s gone!

……………..a fellow animal lover who understands.

  12. Judy,
To answer your question about John Rendall and Anthony Bourke – they were interviewed by the Today show a couple of weeks ago. I watched the interview on youtube. John was thrilled & amazed that so many people have watched the video (over 12 million have watched different versions). He hopes that this will help people become more aware of conservation and the George Adamson Foundation. John is a trustee of the Foundation.

I also watched the documentary “Christian the Lion” last night. Loved it! When I first learned that George Adamson was the shirtless man in Christian’s reunion video and he was also the man that the story “Born Free” was about I was amazed. That was my favorite movie as a child! No wonder I watched the video of Christian so many times and cried happy tears every time! George died a hero trying to rescue a tourist. Poachers killed him. His wife, Joy also did amazing work to help animals. I read that she was one of the founders of the World Wildlife Fund. I’ve been a member for years!

Joy was also murdered. It’s tragic that 2 such good people were murdered.
