Marketing Your Photography Business on Facebook
Let me start by saying that if you’re someone who decides to really market your business on Facebook, you need a strategy. This strategy doesn’t need to be a big deal, but a definite plan will help fans not just ‘like’, but LOVE your page .
1. Build a Facebook page that is engaging and interesting. Don’t build the page to suit your tastes, build it to suit your prospect’s tastes. Add content that is interesting to YOUR AUDIENCE – not to you. This is one of those cases where input and feedback is very helpful, don’t fall in love with what you think is going to be interesting or not – ask, then pay attention to the answers.
2. If you have a Facebook page link to it from everywhere else you are on line and promote it offline. Don’t add a ‘Find us on Facebook’ button (this isn’t hide and go seek), but add a ‘Like’ everywhere – on your website, blog, portfolio, email communications, etc. You should also be publishing your Facebook address on every single piece of printed material you hand out from business cards to brochures. Make your content easy to share.
3. Give your prospects and clients a reason to visit you on Facebook. Have a strategy that clearly denotes your Facebook goals and implement this in such a way that your audience knows what to do when they get to your page on Facebook. Have interesting links. Create applications and video’s that people will share with their friends. Provide special offers. The more you can make your Facebook visitors feel special – the more “sticky” you can make your Facebook page – the more opportunity you give your Facebook followers a way to build their own community, the better off you will be.
4. Facebook ads allow you to connect with the potential audience much the way Google ads pull people in from search. Use Facebook ads to target people of a specific age, gender, educational level, workplace, even location. We use Facebook ads and are seeing extraordinary returns.
5. Facebook applications are where the real marketing success lies. If you can build – or hire someone to build – a custom landing page, contests, giveaways, or any sort of dynamic content (with video, for example) that allows for real interaction, your Facebook page will become very valuable. If you can come up with Facebook applications that really solve problems, or provide valuable advice and insights, people will come to your Facebook page in droves. More importantly, they’ll stay too!
Facebook has a huge reach. Like anything else, you can exploit that reach for marketing purposes, but do so carefully. Marketing and spam are not the same thing. Also stay current on Facebook trends. What works today on Facebook may not work tomorrow.

How do I choose the right wedding photographer?
Your wedding day is approaching and you want everything to be perfect. How do you wade through the barrage of wedding photographers found online to find just the right one? Here are some simple but VERY IMPORTANT things to keep in mind.

1) Weed out the amateurs. Websites can be made to look fantastic. Ask how long have you been a professional shooting weddings? Ask to see an entire wedding not just the highlights. A professional knows how to capture beautiful photography and not be intrusive, how to get great results even if you have only a small amount of time. They also know where to be and when so that key shots aren’t missed! It simply isn’t worth the risk of putting your beautiful day in the hands of an amateur. Don’t delay, the good professionals book up early.
2) Wedding photography is an investment. When the wedding is over the cake is rarely remembered, the flowers will wilt but your goal and my wish is that you will sit down, look at your photographs, smile and be taken back to that day even after 25 or 50 years.
3) Go with a photographer with whom you feel comfortable. The fewer worries that you have on your wedding day the better. Choose the one whose personality will put you and your guests at ease. Don’t discard this element. I have seen amazing photographers act like a bull in a china closet at a wedding and it’s embarrassing and distracting from the event and the bride.
I hope these brief pointers will help you find the perfect complement to your perfect day. If you are still trying to decide on the right photographer give me a call and let’s talk 910.386.8630 or stephanie@moorephotonc.com.

Wedding Pictures in China Earthquake – May 12 2008
[This is a posting that is unbelievable since we have seen the after effects and total devastation of the recent earthquake of Sichuan, May 12 2008, where 15 million homes were destroyed, and the death toll is currently at 69,000 and climbing. Enjoy this sobering post by friederishi]
Another friend of mine, John Chaffee, who is a professor of Chinese Studies sent the following series of pictures that were sent to him by a Taiwanese friend. The friend was taking pictures of a young couple at the White Deer Chapel in Pengzhau, Sichuan when the earthquake struck. The photographer was able to keep his wits and capture these very dramatic images.
It happened when we were taking wedding pictures.
We were taking pictures for a new couple in White Deer Chapel in Pengzhou, Sichuan. Suddenly there was an enormous quake, and the hundred-year old church was wiped out in a split moment.
It is May 12. We were there to take wedding pictures. The session began at two and after only a few pictures were taken, the catastrophe struck. When we saw big chunks of stone falling off the church and the earth was shaking, we realized there was an earthquake. Knowing that there was no place to hide, we lay on our stomach and used hands to protect heads. It is the end of the world, I thought. Not courage, but the seeming loss of hope that, while crawling on the ground, I managed to raise my camera to take these pictures.
It was chokingly dark. all I could hear was the sound of falling buildings.
As the shaking came to an end and the dust began to settle, we all stood up to see what had happened, despondently horrified.
In a split second, the church that only recently celebrated its 100th anniversary became a pile of rubble.
We helped each other to stand up; looking around we could not believe what we saw.
2:41 in the afternoon of May 12. The camera recorded the time. Inset is the church before it fell.
We thought the quake was only limited to this area and tried to call for help.
There was no way that we could secure help and then there were continued aftershocks.
We started to retreat from the rubble. On the way all we saw were despondent scenes; the neighboring villages were severely damaged.
We and the villagers immediately started self-rescuing actions. Fortunately all 33 people taking pictures in the chapel were not hurt.
The fire that evening was the only consolation for the terrified visitors. We thank the hospitality of the kind villagers. Since the roads were all damaged we had to leave the car behind and walked home.
NEW Stephanie Moore Photography Business Cards
"David and Goliath"?
Can you see Stephanie in these shots? It looks like she is taking on this “Goliath” size hot air balloon as it awakens from it’s slumber. Stephanie got right in there for some great shots…
Actually, we were shooting a vow renewal ceremony just south of Kansas City, (this cute couple was celebrating their 50th anniversary!) This was his idea of ‘fun’ them leaving the party in a hot air balloon. You should have seen the look on the faces of all their family and friends. They had all been inside a tent while this balloon was getting ready, and didn’t know about it. So after the meal, they came out to see this colorful balloon filling the sky. They also wondered who was getting in it, surely not this couple who is in their 70′s? Yep. Good for them!
And all the 18 of the grandchildren ran as fast as they could, like Hannah Montana was over there. They couldn’t get to the balloon fast enough. What a fun thing to do. I may have to surprise Stephanie like this one of these days. (Of course, we are still on our honeymoon!)
Here are some shots of the couple leaving the party in the balloon…
We had a cool time shooting this. We also learned a little lesson about dignity, marital integrity, and love. It was a good day!
